Duck Hunting

* Please ask about our Blast and Cast Packages.

While most of the state of Georgia lacks any major water fowl migration “fly ways” GA does have a healthy local population of native ducks such as wood ducks, mallards, hooded mergansers, buffle head and Canada geese.

Occasionally we kill banded birds from as far away as Wisconsin so there is some migratory spill over with an honest shot at green winged teal, pin tails, black ducks and wigeon. We do NOT shoot released domestic ducks; this is strictly “fair chase” hunting with wild birds only! Safety is paramount while hunting with River Through Atlanta Guides and your expert guide will be sure to provide you sound advise while in the blind. We use Labrador retrievers to help recover downed birds and many of our clients enjoy bringing their own dogs to enjoy the experience.

These hunts take place only one hours drive from Atlanta located on private leased land on the north end of Lake Lanier. This is classic southern water fowl habitat which includes open sloughs mixed with a network of beaver dams. For the past 20 years we have enhanced this wetland area by providing wood duck boxes for nesting hens and utilizing a drain system to manipulate water levels for cultivating Japanese millet to attract wildlife.

To maximize our hunting opportunities we minimize hunting pressure to once a week during the designated duck season so booking your hunt early is highly recommended. We scout evening “roosting” sites and morning “fly-out/fly-ins” leading up to your trip to help monitor bird numbers prior to hunts. You are welcome to join us on these scouting excursions.

All hunts begin bright and early during legal shooting hours in the morning and end around 9AM. The size of hunter groups will be determined after we assess the “hunting potential” with fresh recon info on waterfowl populations and habitat. Our fee is $300.00 per hunter but prices can very depending on lease agreements unique to each hunting lease and sizes of hunter groups. Blast and cast packages are available upon request where our clients combine morning shoots and half day float trips on the Chattahoochee for trophy spawning fall/winter brown trout.

This is a great hunt for all experience levels and ages because of the convenient location near home and our mild climate. We take a lot of new hunters who want to prepare for destination hunts abroad and to save money on travel.
